The furrows
available on the bulb of fingerprints may be called as ridges
and contain the minutae or ridge characteristics of different
formations like Bifurcation, Island, Freeends, Free ridges
& Dots in addition to the point of core & delta. |

Nature
does not believe in duplication. The fingerprints remain immutable
(unchangeable) from "cradle to grave" and therefore
serve as the best means for personal identification. |

|
The fingerprints
of the entire humanity may be classified in the following
important patterns :- |
| |
a) Loops b) Whorls
c) Composites d) Arches e) Accidentals |

According
to authorities at least 12 points of similarity in the same
location, position & sequence are sufficient to establish
a conclusive identity between the given fingerprints. |
|
|
|
One
single point of fundamental difference is enough to establish
a conclusive non-identity of fingerprints. |

The
specimen fingerprints may be of two types. Plain fingerprints
offer the smaller area for comparison as compared with rolled
fingerprints having a larger area. Plain prints are obtained
through mere contact with the surface of the paper and rolled
fingerprints are obtained by wide rotation of the fingerprint
on the surface of the paper. Latent Fingerprints (invisible
fingerprints) are those fingerprints which are available on
any surface which comes in contact with human touch. Whenever,
any object is handled/touched the latent fingerprints are
likely to develope on its surface and the same are capable
of being developed through several scientific means. It is
on this principle that so many theft, burglary, murder &
rape cases are solved through scientific investigation through
their comparison with specimen fingerprints of suspects. |
